Nervous Nellie grew up listening to golden oldies (Four tops, The Monkees, The Doors, Beach Boys etc) aswell as mainstream eighties pop (Wham, INXS, Heuy Lewis & the news, Michael Jackson) and when reaching their teens they dove into the grunge & alternative scenes with bands like Dinosaur Jr, Pixies, Nirvana & Sonic Youth being very inspired by the DIY spirit of things. Nervous Nellie have on every record brought the sensebilities of all these musical styles aswell as drawing inspiration from their contemperary peers to create what is the Nervous Nellie sound.

They have made an indierock album, an alternative country album aswell as a folk album so far. Thus charmingly confusing their listeners at times. The bands music these days is best described as elegant pop served on a bed of classic rock with a side of beats and samples. When making the new album the band have said, and I quote, that they want to sound something like: “Motley Crue morphed with Phoenix”. If that is actually what the record will end up sounding like, who knows?

Nervous Nellie are currently recording a new album in Sweden with producer Andreas Söderlund (Niccokick, Hello Saferide etc). With their ever evolving sound this album will be yet another step for the band on it’s somewhat schizofrenic musical quest.

Brothers keep the doors open when laughing and crying. Brothers keep the doors open because when brothers laugh and cry together, it’s not embarrassing. Maybe that is solely what makes these guys so marvellous. Maybe Nervous Nellie are solely marvellous because they let us laugh and cry without indignity.
